+moa scope base options for Sav MkII's?

Re: +moa scope base options for Sav MkII's?

Or Burris sig rings. With them and inserts you can go from 0 to 60 inch of slant in 5 inch steps. I've a set on one and fine tuned them to still allow a 25yd zero.

Re: +moa scope base options for Sav MkII's?

there is murphy precision http://www.murphyprecision.com/Products/Item/1004

i think if you find anything made by anyone other that EGW or DIP it'll be in the $100.00 +/- range.

at the end of the day, IMHO both the EGW and DIP bases offer alot for a price that can reasonably be called a "no brainer" to purchase, which has led to their popularity.

Re: +moa scope base options for Sav MkII's?

+1 for the DIP, i have one (well, it was one of the last RT one) and its great. the ejection port cut out is the bees knees, id hate to have a stuck case or a jam with out it.

Re: +moa scope base options for Sav MkII's?

I have the EGW and for the price it works good.My only bitch is they come with easily stripped allen screws.

Mine was a 20 moa, this was snowhere near enough so I stacked some playing cards in the back, bedded the rail with acraglass and gave it an additional 45moa (65 total).

I hear they will custom make a base with additional moa.

They are definately a good buy and I would buy from them again.

Re: +moa scope base options for Sav MkII's?

I like the idea of going with the DIP 25 MOA over the EGW 20 MOA Base. That extra 5 MOA can come in handy down the road if you're wanting to stretch your range with your .22 Rimfire.

I have the EGW 20 MOA Base on my Savage MKII FVT and have no complaints... However, I'm still waiting for DIP or EGW to grab the market with a 25 MOA Base for the Marlin 925 Bolt Action. Maybe they will after the new Marlin releases for 2011 show up? XT22's I believe they are?

I'm still a Savage fan, but I have a soft spot for Marlins.

Re: +moa scope base options for Sav MkII's?

joe they make 'em, seems they are on backorder status for now:
http://www.diproductsinc.com/Detail.aspx?PROD=112011&CAT=3603

it says 5 moa, but i'm guessing it's a typo

you can probably PM HotRod9mm to clarify or drop him a line at the website.

now to research this xt22...

...found some stuff, as not to hijack this thread will post another.

Re: +moa scope base options for Sav MkII's?

Thanks TP. I hope that is just a typo, and I will PMHotRod to find out. I've got a Mil-Dot 6-24 x 42 Target/Varmint scope setting on my 925 right now, but I'd sure like to up grade to a 25 MOA Base and see what this rifle is really capable of.

Re: +moa scope base options for Sav MkII's?

I sent DIP an email asking if the 5 MOA Base for the Marlin bolt action (925) was a misprint. Hopefully I'll hear something by tomorrow.

Re: +moa scope base options for Sav MkII's?

Recieved a reply to my email to DIP about their 5 MOA scope base advertised for the Marlin bolt action. Unfortunately it is not a misprint - the base actually is 5 MOA,,, not 25 MOA...

I replied to Jodi's reply back to me - making mention of how I felt a 25 MOA Base for the Marlin 925 as well as the potential market for such a base would be benificial especially with the XT22 Marlin series that will be releasing soon (I hope).

Re: +moa scope base options for Sav MkII's?

DAMN!!

well at least that's a testament to the fine customer service at DIP - a response back in less than 12 hours!

HotRod seems like a guy that listens to customers, and will probably be spitting out a 25 moa in no time.

Re: +moa scope base options for Sav MkII's?

Check out murphyprecision.com

It looks like they can pretty much make whatever you want.

I put an order in this morning for a 40 minute base for my savage mkII.

He was very good to deal with over the phone and seemed to know his stuff very well.

Re: +moa scope base options for Sav MkII's?

As a new shooter about to get a MK II TR, how much is necessary for a scope base? I understand the basic concept, but will a 20 MOA base be enough (if not, how far can you go with it)? I plan on putting a Bushnell 6-24x on it, for the time being.

Re: +moa scope base options for Sav MkII's?

I shoot the same 22. I run a 20Moa egw base with a nikon buckmaster on top.

basically if i run my 100 yard zero, to 200 I need about 18 minutes up to get zeroed there. At 300 I would need about 40 up from my 100. At 400 i need about 65.

I have a 40 minute base coming to play with, BUT I have gotten out to 425 yards with standard velocity rounds and a 20 min base and my buckmaster. Of course, my scope holds and 20 moa base are tapped out by 300 yards. SOO, to hit at 350ish I just use mil holds on the 12x setting (scopes mil magnification). To hit out to 425ish, I have to dial the power clear down to 4.5 and use mil holds. Out at the 425 I am looking at max elevation, 20min base, and about a 4 mil hold.

Thank you second focal plane lol.

Yeah I know its a mess... but for known distance and winning bets it works pretty well.

SO basically, you will be fine with a 20 minute base for just about anything : ).

Re: +moa scope base options for Sav MkII's?

kellogg, it also depends on your scope and how much internal travel it has available. You should keep in mind that if your scope only has 40moa, placing a 25moa base will put you too much below and you may not be able to get zero at 50yards. I believe the rule of thumb is don't go with a base that has more than half of your scopes moa?

I believe my Viper has about 65moa internal and with an EGW 20moa base, I'm sitting really close to bottom at 50yards which is great as it gives me at least 50-55moa internal up travel remaining. Had I gone with 25moa, it might be too close for my liking.

Re: +moa scope base options for Sav MkII's?

When I had EGW cut my custom MOA 10/22 base, I just mounted my Falcon 4-14x on the base I had (20 MOA at the time) and zeroed it at 25 yards. Then I checked how much further down the dial could go before bottoming out. I ended up going with a 60 MOA base which gave me an extra full turn of adjustment down (6 mil/20 MOA) left over for zeroing variations between different loads.

Now, I can zero at 25 yards and still have about 20 mil (68 MOA) or upwards adjustment. That's enough to get to about 400 yards without resorting to holdovers.

Re: +moa scope base options for Sav MkII's?

on another forum dedicated to shooting a savage (i hate refering to other forums on my "primary" forum) the same question was asked about different manufacturers of scope bases.

it think this topic here is of value wheather it is a +moa or 0 moa base to help the masses out. maybe even a seperate topic to include both + and 0 MOA 1 piece base manufacturers for not only savage, but to include ruger, marlin, CZ, remington, etc rimfires.

i seen this at farrel's (0 MOA) http://www.kenfarrell.com/scan/st=db/co=...ount/op=eq.html

as a matter of fact i'll post a "1 or 2 Piece Base for Rimfires...+ or 0 MOA" in a couple of weeks tying together a few similiar threads and able to add new sources of supply for them on ANY rimfire. perhaps some good intel on how to shim a 0 MOA base to make it a + MOA base

to make it easier for when that time comes:
