Rifle Scopes MOA vs MRAD (another newb question)

The difference is the unit of measurement, mil is a much simpler unit of measurement. Either will work though, just make sure the knobs match whichever reticle you get. If you have somebody spotting for you there's probably a 95% chance they have a mil reticle so in that regard its best for them to match.

milliradians = MRAD = MILS

MOA is Minute of Angle, and is based on the traditional 360 degree measurment of a circle (a single degree broken down to minutes and seconds) however, for the purposes of scopes etc., minutes are divided into quarters.

Milliradian is 1/1000 of a radian. You can go down geometry rabbit hole to learn more about how many radian are in a circle if you like. For the practical application here, it is 1 meter at 1000 meters and is divided down by decimal. Effectivly metric, but only if you are ranging in meters. But that doesn't really matter.

The short answer is mils is a decimal based system vs MOA which is broken into quarters. In my opinion, the math with mils is far easier.
1/4 MOA is approx .25 inch at 100 yards and .1 mil is approxl .36 inch at 100 yards. So MOA adjustments are more refined, but in practical precision rifle applications, not a material benifit.

they are just measurements the mil math is easier but if you match your reticle to your turret then either is fine i say... if you have a reticle in moa get a moa turret and so on with the mil reticle get a mil turret...

Can someone explain to me the difference between these two reticles and way I should choose one over the other?

don't sweat it. both just angles. the reticles are just a ruler across your scope. Just make sure the knobs and reticle match, nothing else matters much.

if you are new go with mils. no particular advantage but it seems to be the common preference? Historically things were MOA

Ignore complexity and maths arguments, neither are relevant to the shooting line..

For clarification: one Mil at 1000 yards is one yard, and one mil at 100 yards is 0.1 yards = 3.6 inches. A 0.1 mil click is 0.36 inches at 100 yards, right? I know the milrAd system is neither metric or English and I wish I could get used to meters but the above is my understanding of milrads in English terms. I've alwYs used moa scopes but have a Mil scope on the way
