Mod AICS mags

Re: Mod AICS mags

Yes I know it can be done. Is it worth it? I need the extra length because my gun is more accurate with bullet loaded closer to lands. Do holes get in the way? How do you get it out?

Re: Mod AICS mags

You drill out the plate, some people fill them with a weld, but it would be rare for a tip to get stuck in the hole.. but is a good idea just in case. Is it worth it? How much more accurate is your gun that way? Are you getting the job done without?

Those are questions you have to answer.

Re: Mod AICS mags

as far as the mags go, drill out the spot welds holding the front plate. remove the plate. remove paint around the holes. back the holes from the inside with a flat piece of copper or brass. weld up the holes. blend the welds flat. touch up the paint.

you will also need to notch the feed ramp on a remington and some aftermarket actions to clear the longer oal. i personally use a .25" endmill and plunge a radius cut into the bottom of the feed ramp. it could be done with a dremel tool with a steady hand.

Not to me. I think the angle of the pic is deceiving.

Re: Mod AICS mags

I have done it to 2 10rnd AICS mags. I drilled out the spot welds, removed the plate and replaced it with a thinner plate. I welded the new plates in and the mags work great.

I have since cut a new chamber in that rifle and have no need for the longer mag length. If anyone is interested in a trade or wants to buy them send me an IM. You might save yourself some work.
