Thought you guys might want to see the project. Made the wife happy.
The Story. I bought a Model 60 Marlin for the wife to shoot a year or so ago at a local fun show. The rifle has a beautiful wood stock with high gloss finish. A few seeks ago I upgraded the sights and put on a pair of Fire Sights. Then she looks at the rifle and said I want to paint it. I say ok as I point to the barrel and reciever and started telling her about a local Sherrif Reserve that is into Duracoat. Then she tells me no, I mean the wood part. Well I know it is no presentation grade piece but as far as blue collar rifles go again I stress the wood was just beautiful.
So I firmly respond with nope not gonna paint that stock. Seeing the...look of what I wouldn't be getting...I say well I will find another stock to paint. So I put out an add on here and another board looking for a beater stock. A stand up guy Brian W. from my home state (Kansas) out of nowhere chimes in that he has one and sends it to me Free of Charge. First off I didn't think there were those kind of folks around anymore. (Shortly restored my faith in human kind, until I went to Wal-mart the next day. That is a whole other story.)
I get the stock in and soon as I hit my days off I get to sanding, cleaning things up a bit. I got paint supplies and a few days in the almost garage I have Ta-Daa a finished / refinished Model 60 stock per the wife's color request with her name in glittery stickers under the clear coat. Main thing is she is happy. Which all you other married men know when she's happy your happy.
