Model 70 classic ?

Hey all, I have a value question for all you gun nuts. I happened to end up with a new haven built model 70 classic (older claw extractor action) stainless steel .300 WSM. The gun is pretty flawless. No scratches in the metal. It has a bell&carlson black textured fiberglass stock (not yet pillar bedded or glass bedded) the gun has hardly been fired, less than ten times according to the previous owner. I believe him because the throat looks new, bolt doesn't show any wear and the bore is very shiny. I didn't give much for the gun, but I am curious of the value. The reason I am unsure of the value is because the barrel has been cut to 20" long and has been recrowned. The barrel cut and recrown looks good and professionally done just as the seller claimed. Any help putting some sort of a value on this would be great. Thanks in advance.

It isnt rare. I have one myself. Actual value is probably going to hinge on your particular market. I purchased mine with an HS Precison stock and finished in black Teflon for $600 about four years ago.

Yes, I knew it wasn't rare, I was just wanting to know how much it took away from the value since the barrel was cut.

In my opinion, a 20" barrel on a WSM is going a little too short but that is your call. I would probably put it to him that if I were to buy it, barrel replacement is going to be required and the pricing would have to be adjusted to reflect that reality.

What is he asking for it?

I've already bought it. But I still wanted to put some sort of a value on it. I gave 400$ for the gun with the B&C stock and talley lightweights. I figured I was safe buying at that price. And I agree about the length. I would never have gone lower than 22". Thank you guys for your responses.

That is a reasonable price. The M-70 is the best action out there in my opinion (I own 3 of them) so you at least have a good solid base to build on at a decent price. Let us know how it turns out.
