Today I got up close and personal with the largest flying aircraft in the world. I got to take all the pics of the outside that I wanted to but when I went inside I had to leave my camera outside. This thing is unbeleiveably huge. The cockpit was massive. They had to fuel this monster when it got here. It holds 90,000 gallons but they only fueled it to 85,000 gallons for the trip they are making. Its max gross takeoff weight is 1,300,000 lbs.

Re: Modern Marvel

Watching them land and take off is very cool. (We get them in here on occasion to pick up fire fighting helos that are headed out around the world.) I am fortunate that my office over looks the run way. I always go outside and stare in disbelief that that pig can fly.

Good luck

Re: Modern Marvel

I didn't know they were still flying. It sucks that you could not take pics of the inside. I just wanted to see the cargo bay. I cante imagine how big it is since I have played football in a C5.

Re: Modern Marvel

I've only seen it on T.V. and can't imagine that thing in person. Not long ago I too watched a program on it and it looked as if it was going to just drop out of the sky when it was getting ready to land. Simply impressive.

Re: Modern Marvel

It is amazing that something that weights over one million pounds can even get off the ground, let alone stay there. That is truly an epic example of human engineering.

On a less profound level, very cool and thanks for sharing.
