I'm looking for info on converting an AI long magazine, for 300WM, to feed 7.62 ammo. I have built a m24 type rifle, long action, and want to put it in an AICS stock. Has anyone done a succesful conversion on the mags? Thanks.
i have not done this to that specific mag but i imagine you wouldhave to shorten the fallower and weld in a block to make the inside length of the mag shorter atleast thats what we do with mausers
I see your pointabout the mag filler. The thing I'm most comcerned about is the feed lips height and the length. So the shorter .308 cartridge would release from the mag at the correct time and not flop around before it got into the breach.
I have a custom build that I did, it can have the barrel switched out between 20-06 & 7.62. I use Accurate mags which are almost identical to the AI Mags but easier to aquire. I went with the 300 Win Mag version. All I had to do was bend the lips ever so slightly so that the '06 & 7.62 wouldn't pop out between the lips when the mags were loaded. It has worked flawlessly. Other than that that's all I've had to do.
