My grandpa is gifting me a model 1999 Montana rifle company rifle in 300 WSM. I know a lot about the more common actions like R700, but know very little about MRC other than it’s a Mauser action. Anyone have experience with these or have an opinion on them? Are they a solid offering and viable for Precision shooting and/or hunting?

Mostly hunting stuff. So you won't find a huge following here.

They are nice, solid rifles. No reason it won't work for you. Not going to find a huge aftermarket though, and I'd probably just call them for rebarrelling.

One great thing about them, the sa mag action has a long mag box, over 3.1" if I recall, you'll be able to seat vld bullets out to lands without the length problems usually associated with short actions. They're heavy, but well built. I have an extreme 2 in 25-06, very nice rifle.
My uncle mentioned something about this. That’s great! So one could hypothetically rechamber from 300 wsm to a prc caliber when the barrel needs changing?

Great rifle for anybody that loves the Winchester Model 70. Great hunting rifle and good accuracy as far as I know. In the precision rifle world you will struggle as there is very limited support for the Model 70. In a precision rifle you would expect offerings in chassis, triggers, prefit barrels, etc. and the Rem 700 and clones dominate in that aspect.

To the OP, not a lot of love for Montana/Kimber/WIN M70/FNH receivers here as Barbie accessories are not as available as most lessor actions, JMHO!, R 700 costs less and has many more options as do the clones! but usually require additional work ( clones excluded depending on manufacture)
RPR and TIKKA actions require less smithing costs than REM and may be better out of the box, however for me at least the flat bottom integral lug configuration of the MT Rifle/Kimber/WIN M70/FNH along with CRF seems like the better work horse option for all around use.
JMHO! FWIW!
Their are trigger options and CDI does a Bottom Metal Magazine for stocks, chassis options are extremely limited and usually require propriety magazines that strangle cartridge COALs!

That’s very helpful info! The bottom metal would be a sweet addition. Chassis would be also a solid upgrade if I can find one that’s not crazy expensive. Love the feedback, thank you.
