Re: Morning airboat ride with kids..

Airboats are like cars, or even rifles. They start around $4000, and the sky is the limit. There are all different kinds of boats too, grass boats, deep water, racing, touring, etc... Mine is like the F-150 of airboats. Nothing fancy buy it always works and never gets stuck. For a decent one, you need about $10-15k. The motor is the key. I run a lycoming 150 aircraft motor. You can get boats with car motors, but they're heavy so you won't be able to run that shallow. I can run mine on dry grass, and only 7 inches of water. But, aircraft motors cost more and cost more to fix.

Lol... No, I've been going out in the Glades for 25 years, on an airboat for 20, and have never had a snake in my boat. An alligator once, but that was a drunken dare about who could grab the biggest one and my brother let it go inside the boat. The only consistent problem I have is big banana spiders make webs across the trails and whack you in the face at 40mph when yore hauling ass. And some times frogs fall of the grass and land in the boat, make their way to the back and get sucked into my prop.

We're having a HUGE problem with pythons down here. People let their pets go in the Everglades, and now theres a breeding population. Check this out from this mornings paper... Python problem

Great pistures, I miss the Glades but not the mosquitos, Moved to Tenn. Buddy of mine brought up one of those pond lizards last week It jumped in his boat too ha ha. All legal of course.

There are some hazards out there, including an old crashed Cessna, but for the most part just lots of water, grass and alligator heads. The area I go in is bordered by levees on 4 sides, so you can't get too lost. It's about 100 sq miles. I'll get some pics of the camp up soon.
