Thanks in advance for any advice! I just bought a 1943 mosin Nagant M91/30... I know that mosins are generally a dime a dozen, but after some research I've found that mine has markings that make it Russion in origin, but it has a seal on it that means it was in service in Romania at some point... Apparently this Romanian seal makes it fairly rare...since they are all pretty cheap should I worry about its rarity since I'm planning on putting a modern wildcat style thumb hole stock, modern trigger, scope and bi-pod on it? All serial numbers are matching as well... Thanks again

You might want to shoot it first, no use sporterizing it if you end up with horrible groupings. Anyway, if you have any doubt, keep it original and buy another one to sacrifice. I have done a number of Mosin sporters, and you are looking at about $300 worth of work. So if you just want to have a milsurp rifle that you can hunt with I would suggest a 91/59 in a boyds stock. You will have a 7 lb rifle that will be great in the thicket and can be returned to original.
In all honesty the ROI on milsurp sporters is almost always in the negative. You will have a sporter built to your specs, but will never get what you paid into it.

if your gun is marked "instructie" usually on the stock with a painted red band around it,then,it is very rare. instructie 91s are not common at all and so marked 91/30s are quite rare. as stated above turning any mosin into a sporter is a waste of money and effort. the safety setup alone makes them unsuitable IMHO as it is hard to manipulate to say the least. a lot of people do hunt with unmessed with guns and do ok. as above a 38,91/59 or 91/38 would work pretty well as a woods gun. saftey issue still present of course. if you have a 91/30 instuctie,sell it on gun boards to a collector. ought to be a quick sale.

I hate the way these rifles have a bad name for accuracy, usually because thick as f**k arseholes were shooting crappy 50's romanian surplus out of them or reloading their own and using .308 heads instead of the proper .311 heads. I have a 43 PU sniper and it has shot some really sweet groups, a few under 1moa @ 100. They were more than a match for the overly complicated No4T and the mediocre and rare K98. Get 1 with a nice bore, load some 174gr .311 SMK's and you will be surprised how effective they really are.

or one of the expensive 28/76s or even a 39 iin exc condition and feed it good ammo. the finns do know how to make a rifle i think. the scores of many soviet snipers in ww2 will attest to the utility of the MN.
