i just picked up a 16” mvp patrol .308 with a Boyd’s stock. I know it likely won’t be a same hole gun, just wondering if anyone has one and what factory ammunition yours likes before I begin testing this one out. Thanks for your time
I have one no aftermarket stock, I dont shoot factory ammo through it but I about shit my pants when I stuck 3 subsonics at 100yds inside a quarter. I am happy wiht it.
A 12 twist barrel, even as short as 16" will stabilize anything up to 180 grains if it can get them going 2500 fps or more. The 168s should not be a problem at all.
I found Norma's 168 gr SMK factory load to shoot pretty consistently at 1.1 - 1.3 MOA (5 shot groups) in that rifle. Gorilla 175 SMK was ~1.2 MOA (5 shot groups).
I only loaded one type of bullet for it before I had to give that rifle back. It was my very first try at reloading, but I had good success getting a ~.75 MOA (5 shot group) load for it . Here is the load I put together. Its 7/10 gr under Hornady's book load at .010" longer.
Case: Federal Gold Medal 1X fired – headstamp FC 308
Primer: CCI 200 LR
Powder: Varget
Weight: 44.2 grains
Bullet: Hornady 150 FMJ
OAL: 2.710
Base to Ogive: 3.140″ (.050" off lands)
Velocity: 2,591 fps
Thanks man I appreciate you taking the time to write that out! I bought this rifle with the hopes of having a decently accurate lightweight rifle for an Alaska moose hunt. I didn’t want to switch calibers because 308 is readily available for me and I didn’t want to spend a ton...hopefully it does the trick. I can’t imagine having to shoot past 300 yards

I'm new to the hide (long time listener, first time caller) so I'm not sure if linking to my personal blog is kosher, but if you feel like doing some reading, here's my full thoughts on both the rifle and the load dev process.
Holy crap man! That is literally one of the best reviews I’ve read! Very well worded! The guy who had the rifle before me upgraded to a Boyd’s wood stock from the standard composite that came on the mvp patrol. I plan on glass bedding it. Hopefully that sures it up a little bit!

"Composite" is one way to put it. I drilled that stock for some flush cups and it's somewhere between MDF and OSB. It splintered A LOT when I was drilling on it with pretty sharp bits. Good thing you got a new stock!
Bringing back an old thread.
I have a chance to pick up an MVP LR in 6.5 for $250
I had one of the first runs in .204 when the MVP came out but got a great trade for a heavily modded CZ P07.
I’m going to purchase the MVP LR 6.5, but I was wondering if there is any aftermarket support for the MVP yet. ie; stocks, triggers etc?
I’ve googled it, but all I get is purchase info on a brand new rifle. Any help is appreciated.
