I will soon have two 223 rifles, one with a 1:9 twist (AR15) and the other with 1:12 (Howa barreled action). Wondering what off the shelf ammo would best show off what the rifles are capable off. No Federal Gold Match in the 50 - 60 grain range. The AR15 does not seem to care much for BlackHills 69 grain. This is just for target shooting.

Try some 53 grain Hornady Superformance Varmint rounds. Not exactly the cheapest, but the new bullet has BC close to a 69 grain bullet but is about 200 feet faster than a standard 55 grain .223 round. Not sure how far you're shooting but over extended distances the trajectory is noticably flatter.

My sps varmint 1 in 12 twist loves 55 gr. Sierra blitzking ballistic tips above reloader 10. Itll do 5 shot 1/2" groups at 100ds. I shoot them out pf my 1in 9 twist m&p 15 also i get 1.5" 5 shot groups with a 4 power optic and the stock trigger. But every rifle will b different. Hope it helps

Try the Hornady TAP 60gr. This stuff has performed well in every rifle I've tried it in, with any twist.

I've duplicated this load with 24.5 gr of Ramshot TAC.
