I have a Savage 12 LRP in 6.5 CM. Frankly, it shoots very well out of the box. Sub-MOA. A long range semi-pro shooter friend of mine was actually surprised at how well it shoots for a production rifle. And for under $1000, its hard to beat.

Even a lot of the custom builders will have rifles ready to ship. just look at their web site and see if what they have meets your criteria that you want. call also not everything is posted. Gap is a big one for this that I am aware of. When I went up there in July to pick up my 6.5 Creedmoor they had three of them available to ship but not posted on their site.
Sorry, I've been out of town. It's a great shooter. I don't bench it much at all, but have got 3 - 4 shots to touch with 123 Scenars (that's all I shot at one bull), and have got it to shoot 140s very nearly that well. That doesn't pass muster with some here, of course, but it's the use I put the rifle to, and it's the use I believe the rifle was built for, so I'm extremely happy with it.
If you have a little knowledge of "AR" platform, I built a 6.5 Gas gun using a Mega upper and lower and all the rest are JP parts on a budget. This thing is a laser! Cold bore 600 yard shots on a 10" pie plate, and recoil is like shooting a .22lr (well ...almost). Highly recommended getting a gas gun, and the 6.5 is just a flat shooting round. You can out shoot most guys high end bolt action .308's. I did recently buy a Desert tech/Tac Bolt gun for the convenience of shooting both the .338 and the 6.5 in one rifle, so that is something to consider also. They are fantastic rifles.
Also ...anyone know anything about Hornady discontinuing the 140 A-max ??? All my dope is for this round, I called them and they said out of production, they may start again in November !! Awful !!
The 120 A-max just doesn't have the BC compared to the 140...
Anyone know anything about the Winchester 140 Grain HPBT ???

While i would like to build another ar in 308/6.5 the cheapest would be about 800 on specials with no optics. I can pick up a 6.5 creedmoor for 400 bucks and be ready to rock.
I looked at a Sauer 100 in 6.5 creedmore tonight and for $699.00. Good German quality. Stock bedding questionable. Salesman said his customer that bought one was putting bullet holes on holes. May be worth checking out if you are on a budget.
What do you guys think that have one or know about this caliber? I was going to go custom, but I bet there is a pretty good production gun out there. Thanks for helping
When I read “production gun”, I get the inference that it’s a rifle made by a manufacture in volume and at a price point somewhat below what a custom rifle would go for. I’m surprised that the Tikka has not been mentioned since it’s regularly praised on the forum by the guys that have them. If I were looking for a production type rifle, I would also give consideration to a Howa barreled action and then dropping it in a chassis Like the XLR or X-Ray or the new Bravo when it comes out. The Howas I’ve seen shoot very well and they won’t break the bank.
I recently bought a Bergara B14 HMR, 6.5 cm and am tickled. Extremely accurate. I use it as a hunter. I also own a Ruger 6.5 cm precision rifle with a LRI barrel and the bergara outshoots it every time. Just food for thought. I would do a thorough search on available reviews. I have many rifles, GAP, Surgeon, Ruger, weatherby, list goes on and on. Bergara is a shooter
No offense, but this is kind of a stupid question. With modern production in firearms and ammo, every major production gun should be able to outshoot the majority of shooters out there, straight out of the box. I mean sure, with anything produced, even customs unless they are test-fired before leaving, could potentially have some issues. However, these types of production issues are pretty slim from most major manufacturers these days. So, I wouldn't sweat who makes the most accurate out of the box rifle. I would get what you like best and can shoot and roll on. If you get something that isn't shooting up to your standards then you have to eliminate some variables such as, yourself, ammo, scope, etc. At minimum you will have to practice and find a load your rifle likes whether factory or not. Some rifles shoot all kinds of ammo well and some like specific loads and bullet weights. Thats my .02 cents.

If you want something in between the sub-$1000 and the $4000 plus rifles, check out Masterpiece Arms 6.5 Creedmoor bolt action. You can pick one up for around $2600 new. Fantastic chassis and sub-0.5 MOA out of the box.
It is pretty amazing what people are getting out of RPR's straight out of the box, under $1000 thats probably your best bet. A guy at my range has one shooting .3 MOA consistently with his reloads.
The Ruger RPR has changed the point of entry fee for the shooter that wants a long range precision tacticalish rifle that is accurate right from the factory without having to do any mods. It’s cheap compared to a custom rig and maybe just as accurate.
I have to say that I have been very impressed with the Ruger Precision. I shoot with a guy that has a 6.5mm Creedmoor and my son has the 308 version. Both shoot well around .75 - .50 MOA @100. I have seen the 6.5mm Creedmoor shoot 1200 yards many times. For the money invested it is hard to go wrong with the Ruger. I am not a fan of the stock but that can be replaced.
I'd have to agree with this, I started out with one, it still shoots as good or better than my custom rifle with more than 2000 rounds down the barrel. The only drawback compared to the others are the stock/bottom metal. I've swapped mine into a mcree, nice but heavy, and now a Manners T5. Couldn't get comfortable behind a buddies Ruger, I'd have to change out the buttstock, but it shoots well.

That said I just bought a NIB Savage 10 FCP-SR in 6.5 CM delivered for about $700 including shipping and transfer fees etc. Then I got a $100 rebate from Savage. So, $600 for a brand new Savage that shoots better than I can.
I'm impressed. Adding glass and an Atlas Bipod, muzzle brake, tactical chassis, etc. but using a Savage barrel and action as a platform to build on seemed a good choice for my first precision rifle. So far I'm really happy.

There are plenty of accurate rifles out there but, the best looking rifle accurate rifle (which obviously is the most important thing) is my AIAX.
Seriously though, these things shoot. The other plus is you can call Mountain High Shooting and have one of these in your hands in a week. There was also one that just sold in the classified that was a killer deal.

I think the Tikka action's are much better than the savage, do they shoot any better, probably not. Here's a five shot group from my LRP, has over 2k through the barrel. Hadn't shot it in awhile, threw a PST on it and this is when I zero'd it for a friend to shoot with me.
No way. Desert Tech Inc 6.5. .5 moa right out of the box. Slap a good scope on it and you're set.
Good alternative is the AI AT in 6.5 creedmoor.

Bergara are great rifles. Just don’t expect to be able to load into the lands without some dremel work if that matters to you at all. Whereas Tikka CTR comes with a magazine that will let you load it to the lands...and a much better magazine to begin with.
If it’s my money, I’m going Tikka. Have no idea what the most accurate is but every single one I’ve handled has been well under an moa and they are just a pleasure to use. Action is slick, ctr comes with double stack mags that feed like butter, already threaded, etc...
Bergara b14 hmr, tikka t3x ctr, howa barreled action from brownels and a krg chassis. All good shooters and not a ton of money.
So far I am pretty happy with the Savage Stealth 6.5mm. For a production rifle it has a great trigger, the action is blue printed and the cost is very reasonable at less than $1000, actually closer to $850 or $900 if you shop around. Leaves a good budget for quality glass and some other accessories. Only complaint I had was with the FAB Defense stock, replaced it with a Luth MBA-3 and put the FAB on one of my AR's where it works well. It would have also been even better with a 20 MOA rail instead of the stock 0 MOA but still an awesome shooter for not a lot of money!
