Most valuable piece of equipment you have purchased

I never even considered thermal for seeing things you don't want to shoot at, that's actually an exceptional point to make.

My most valuable piece of kit is probably a reliable combat sidearm. I CC daily and get good use out of the investment, it's the one thing I won't skimp on in regard to reliability. I figure if I'm using a sidearm instead of my rifle then I REALLY need that sidearm to be dependable and have a large capacity, since for me it's a default first response and potentially a last resort weapon.

Various and sundry cases and bricks of .22LR ammo and many, many tins and sleeves of pellets over the years. I didn't buy nearly all of them, either (thanks Dad, for eating ramen so I could have a box of shells a day for about 8 years).

Hundreds of thousands of repetitions, across many rifles and a few pistols have done more for my shooting than any one piece of other junk, loading shit, or even individual weapons, much as I do love some of them.

The guys I know that are far better than me, have--lightning bolt!--spent more rounds than me.

Nothing
could replace those rounds on target.

If I had to make a second vote, it would be the small library of books that have prevented me from reinventing the various "wheels" and going down the sundry ratholes in skills/technical/equipment that prior shooters have already solved, and saw fit to tell me, if I'd just listen.
