They used to use something like that in Africa.
They were known as Paradox Guns.
Didn't have that much energy. But a 12Ga firing a solid from a rifled barrel could wallop an elephant off its feet!

I have an 8GA (courtesy Buffalowinter) and it is a cannon! I can't imagine what it would be like with an 8GA solid!

I think that's also the same laser from The Terminator.... on the AMT Longslide.
Lasers were cutting edge then. So were M16A1's. Just before they went to the A2. IIRC, the USMC was the first to adopt the A2!

A 500 nitro express makes my teeth hurt after two rounds, will kill anything and only generates 1/3 of that posted power.

I vote for "Sinus Infection" and "Asthma Attack" just so I could take those to parties, etc.
We must be able to arrest women before they commit prostitution. By registering vaginas and knowing who has them we can do that…If they have vaginas, they are pretty likely to commit prostitution.

Well, since you shoot literal cannons, you're probably qualified to answer this. Even using hard cast bullets, would a lead slug actually survive hitting something with that much energy? Edit: I mean the 12 gauge from hell bit. Not the 8 gauge.
The 'slugs' were not like the hollow soft rifle slugs we shoot today. They were .70 Cal (or bigger) solid round balls. Massive weight behind them. Even hitting a skull, they would simply shatter everything. They would go through hair, hide, bone and cause massive hydrostatic shock damage.
Remember, more elephants have been killed with .303's and AK's than all the fine double guns put together. The point of the Paradox or the .470 nitro was to stop the charge and allow a 'close kill' before getting trampled and gored. And it was a bit of pukka kit. If all you wanted to do was kill things, rapid fire 303's would take it down. Just not in a sporting manner, old chap!

A few years ago a state legislator from somewhere in the Midwest (I forget where) declared that if we just banned the sale of high-capacity magazines they would eventually be used up and the problem would go away.
Somebody pointed out that one could just load fresh bullets and re-use them, and she deleted her Twitter account.
Too bad the clerk didn’t stop shooting after the guy went down. Those 3 extra rounds are going to cost him unfortunately.
So they thought they were like cap gun ring mags, you just threw them away when used? You can't make this stuff up!

When you get shot- your brain is overloaded by pain... bleeding causes a loss of blood pressure...
Just like in 1st aid class, lying flat on the ground brings blood back to the head... Was the threat over? Was the robber still moving?
Many people who get shot, drop to the ground, the brain deals with the pain and they get back in the fight
When you might be looking at LWOP for being a career criminal and robbing a store with a firearm... maybe the desire to make it out is great...

The perp did not drop his weapon and it was still not visible. He was still moving and could be trying to bring a weapon to bear. The clerk can enunciate that he was afraid for his life and did not know the status of the perp who was still moving and could be trying to attack.
He'll be fine.
If he had walked over and administered a coup-de-grace... he'd have been in trouble. But he shot until the threat was considered not a threat... by him.
