That was what she looked like during refurbishment. She is now at San Marcos Texas at the Commemorative Air Force (fomerly and properly, in my mind, the Confederate Air Force). Where she is in full authentic paint scheme. This plane was the lead plane for the D Day invasion, carrying Curahees, over Normandy. Now fully restored paint and nose art donated by the paint company (as well as all the prep and labor) and engines donated by the Lycoming company (including install and calibration and run up labor). Do a search for her, and when you find the web site, buy something with the logo, as all proceeds go to continuing to maintain the ship. Their mockup display model was in our military group for the San Antonio Veteran's day parade. I wil edit this entry when I get my photos downloaded to the computer.
The plane flies and travels. For the 75th Anniversary of D Day, she led other American C46, and 47's across country, to Newfoundland, then across the Atlantic to Ireland and then England for the flight over the English channel, and D Day activities.
My bride and I went to their 40's themed Hangar Dance.
Totally restored and flying now.

Looks great mate, I worked on C47's from the early 70's to mid 90's.

A full stick of WWII ADT jumped from her in Normandy last June. I saw her last April in Fredrick with 5 other C 47'S doing practice mass jumps. They did a beautiful job on her.

I cannot find the reference now but read, a long time ago, that Rommel was almost captured in North Africa.

If memory serves me correctly, it was after the allies finally captured Tunis. He found himself behind Allied lines and was temporarily held in an allied field hospital.

He convinced the American personnel holding him that he was Polish and not German.

Just goes to show you that blunders never cease.

If I am wrong on the details, please enlighten me.

if it is true this is the story:

At one point, he and his staff found themselves suddenly deep behind enemy lines. They came upon a New Zealand Army field hospital, where any rational person would stay out of sight until they could get the hell out of dodge. Instead, he approached the hospital and made light conversation, asking how the soldiers and doctors were faring.

Caught off guard by the surreal nature of the situation, the British and Kiwis told Rommel that things were okay, they guessed, but they could sure use some bandages and medicine. Rommel said he'd see what he could do and drove off unmolested. A few days later, he came back with medical supplies and just gave them away.

Is the local Denver news nerd? Seems one of the ladies in the office has shown me a clip of him once.

I dont watch the news here. Too stupid and will ruin the last 3 functioning dendrites I have.

Yeah, that's one of the network news fucktards. Too dumb and too city to know that the wood is going to burn one way or another -- but don't heat your houses, people, just freeze to death because, you know, climate change. *facepalm*

If we could only annex Ft. Collins down to Denver and toss their asses out of our state.

Just one of the reasons we escaped Colorado to Wyoming. It may, too, be overrun with the fucktards, but I expect to have been moved to an urn by then.

I remember that.

The P is because it's in pieces, and the F is cause it's just fuckered up.

Sorry, poorly worded joke. ?
I'll go back to watching TV for now
It's ok... non-chair force folks won't necessarily recognize what you were attempting to impart.

Officially for those not in the know, aircraft status is listed for the record as:

FMC= fully mission capable
PMC= partially mission capable (B-52's spend their whole life here)
NMC= not mission capable

This public service announcement brought to you by the resident Hide Flightline Production Superintendent.

We have been spending some time in Wyoming looking at property and plan on moving there next year. One of the realtors we talked to mentioned Kanya West had bought property nearby and I said "who's that"? He said he's some famous rapper guy that's married to one of the Kardashians. I told him I didn't really know who either of them are or really give a shit about supposedly famous people, he said, "You'll fit in fine here"

You forgot Cann status.
AKA recreational maintenance.

Let's shit can serviceable parts into DRMO and then spend the rest of eternity pulling parts from good aircraft to fix broken aircraft.

Then, after a while, we'll pick another FMC aircraft, then pull parts from it to fix the cann aircraft.

It's like a stupidity merry go round.
