Grandad dealt guns a bit. After he died, Dad decided to give me the Remington Rand. I had already bought the Operator, but no way was I going to turn it down.

These two machines are over 70 years apart in age.

(And yes, they are both loaded mag, chambered, and safetied. Why wouldn't they be?)

What is the spring on the scope? Educate me
The scope slides back and forth in the mounts during recoil. The spring returns the scope to the correct eye relief after recoil. Some of the Unertl style scopes don't have springs, they have lock rings in front of and behind the front mount to prevent them from moving. The lock rings and spring retaining ring can also be loosened so the eye relief can be adjusted during position changes when shooting matches.
