I shot a one gallon paint can with Tannerite in it by some trees. I was 150 yards away. The can turned into flying razor blades and some of it was embedded in the tree bark.
The looney looms large in this one.

I understand the reason for the average. But my primary point was the Chiron will be more of a production car than the SSC will ever be. I would then have to argue that the SSC didn't do 300+ in either direction... without cheating. Even a 280 mph return run would put the Chiron faster. Not quite accurate, the Chiron only went 304 in one direction, therefor not setting a record by running back to back both directions as required by rules of record keeping companies. This makes a big difference in the speed average, especially if there is wind or a grade. The production car requirement has nothing to do with it, the Tuatara speed is averaged from runs in both directions giving it the record.
The courage of those guys.Father was a ball turret gunner in B-24 with the 15th AAF based out f Italy. Flew his 25 missions and rotated home to train for the invasion of Japan. Looked closely inside one at the Pima Air Museum and never figured out how he fit in it let alone spend hours inside that thing during a mission.
What it feels and sounds like to be on the receiving end of an artillery attack. Footage of live fire done on an Army ordnance range by a NSSA cannon crew around 2002. Target is an old M113 armored personnel carrier. Cannon used in the first sequence is a modern reproduction Model 1861 3-inch Parrott rifled field gun firing 20-lb impact explosive-fragmentation shells. Some rounds are near misses. The damage done by this shell is equivalent to a modern RPG-7 HE antipersonnel rocket. The old Parrott shells did not have the velocity, or explosive power, or shaped charge technology to penetrate the APC's armor. Pay attention to the horizon and you will see the cloud of smoke from where the gun is located.
