Wasn't just used by the Germans that used pervitin.

Even Col. Rex Applegate suggested amphetamines:

(20) Benzedrine has been used successfully in patrol work. It helps to keep the members alert, awake, and provides the necessary physical and nervous energy for a period as long as 6 hours. Normally a tablet is taken one hour after the patrol departs on the mission. Its effects will usually be felt about 2 hours after taking it. The energy provided will last for an additional 6 hours. More can be taken if the patrol is out for a longer period of time. Such a drug should be used in special situations and must not be relied on consistently to get good patrol performances. A quantity of morphine in syrettes or tablet form should also be taken along by the patrol.

IIRC some other older FM's covered the topic as well.

Pervitin... was a over the counter 'pick me up' in 1930's Germany.

Used during invasions of Poland and Western Europe to fuel Blitzkrieg. But part of the reason the Wermacht stalled outside Dunkirk may have been that the troops hit the end of their ropes... even with amphetamines. Not much later in the war it was banned.

Not sure if it's still happening today, but as late as VN, U.S. Special Operations troops were issued 'stay awake' pills. Amphetamines. And one of the reasons that the 'biker culture' of the '60's (many groups founded by WW2 veterans looking for excitement) were into amphetamines was exposure to the drugs during the war. Esp. Aircrews. Helped you ride hard and party hard!

Meh.... everyone looks for an advantage! Or a buzz. Rope on sailing ships was kept locked up because the sailors would smoke the hemp... rope locker indeed.

They still issued us go & no-go pills in the 80s and had us take them over the weekend to see if we would be safe to fly with them.

Air Force docs prescribed it like vitamins in the 60's. When my dad was stationed on Guam, he took them for a time and in his words, "went through heck" kicking them. I'm glad he did. He hated depending on any thing, or person.

A local auction company has a non-running 1985 Honda VF700F Interceptor (what the second above was based off of). Looks complete except for the seat and some plastics. I really like the exposed frame/tank shape. Auction ends in a few days, and I’m tempted to go check it out for as cheap as it’s currently bid. I have a buddy who owns a CNC/plasma cutter. Would be a fun project, and a neat bike to hand off to my son when he’s old enough.

View attachment 8004440Just yesterday, I was on a divided road with an 8’ wide two lane bike path paralleling it. Cyclist is in the road instead, admittedly on the right side. I’ve got traffic next to me so cannot move over, so I pass him without slowing down. I did move left and hugged the line to give him way more than the legal 3’ clearance between us.

I get past him and see him fling a finger at me in my rear mirror. I laughed. Did he expect me to slow down to his speed? Respect his ‘right’ to use the Highway? 🤣🤣

Yes, I realize that he is a ‘serious’ cyclist and doesn’t deign to share with the occasional recreational rider…<sarcasm>
you really couldn't slow down and find some room? ANY room?! HAD to pass the guy right then and there?! ...and it's somehow his fault you can't drive?!

It isn't the recreational cyclists on the MUTs you need to watch for, it's the joggers, walkers, kids, dogs, and other braindead zombies. Not to mention that the MUTs usually dump you out on roads at about the worst spots possible.

It's safer to ride with the cars. They're *usually* predictable.

I see these kinds of posts lots. Usually from people that don't have a clue what they're talking about. I suggest you try riding a bike on said MUT. Even better, learn to ride a bike and experience the fun too

...and yes, I've been riding for more years than I've been shooting.

So by your very own words, you acknowledge that you don't actually like having to share a road with slow moving unpredictable folks that clog things up and ruin your nice glorious ride while you fantasize about being whatever dope head you idolise...

Now you know how cars feel having to deal with your stupid asses on the roads.

Rude, arrogant, selfish, snobby bike riders deserve to have to be forced to share the road with others just as selfish, uncaring and pig headed as them, until they learn a little bit of common courtesy and stop blocking everybody with their stupid B.S. that they do for fun.
