I have had the privilege of speaking with several VN POWs, one from WWII and two from Korea. Very humbling experience.
I read an interesting article many years ago. Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese captors were more brutal than the Germans...not that those boys had a vacation from the hostilities. Being a POW of any enemy has to brutal, but IMO VN was the worst.
When I lived in rural SC, there was a simple code: If it was after dark and your porch light was on, visitors were welcome. In the daytime, if your main front door was open and only the storm door was closed, visitors were welcome. Unless it was something really important, you didn't bother people with a turned off porch light or a closed front door. The system worked well.
Like a lotta common sense things of days past, they just “old fudd” lore and nobody pays attention…..

That’s still how I operate.

Growing up on the farm....your not getting out of your vehicle unless my dog lets you. He wouldn't scratch up your vehicle trying to get at you. They'd escort your vehicle up the driveway. But the main dog would let you know more than two steps out of your vehicle without permission would probably result in a bad day. They've kept multiple people from wandering where they don't belong or at the very least sounded the alarm.
My oldest dog would protect Grandma like she was the only human worth keeping on the planet. He was her personal escort in or out of the house....unless she was vacuuming....then he'd hide somewhere.

Was this before wire brushes or file combs were invented? Using a piece of window screen seems like more trouble than it's worth to clean a file.
I can’t remember now if I posted this, or if I just wanted to post it. And since it’s easier to post it twice than it is the scroll through page after page…
I use a flat piece of brass. Move the edge across the file to scrape metal out. File card wont touch 316 or 904L stainless.
Brass doesn't fill up a file like aluminum does? I'll stick with using a wire brush or file comb, I have a selection of both.
That will look awesome in 25-30 yrs.....
