The stereo equipment in the SubBase barracks at Pearl was awesome. Among other things it was the first and only place I ever saw a Nakamichi Dragon, and in 1984 that was the schnizzle. Because we didn’t have a dispersing office on the boat single enlisted guys could get 6 mo advance pay just before we left on WestPac. That did result in some large one time purchases.

I never quite grew out of that phase. Thankfully, I have a very tolerant wife.

Sweeeet. Understanding is an understatement. Mine suggested I pick one expensive hobby and I dropped out of the audiophile scene, about the time THX appeared, in favor of 240Zs.

How big is your boat I mean ship?

Those are 1250's for the left and right? I stopped at SAE 450's

I never was into boats, although I do appreciate them. Cars, motorcycles, audio, and firearms have been my jam for a long time.

McIntosh C1100 tube preamp with McIntosh solid state 1.2KW mono amps running Wilson Audio Alexia II speakers. The KW’s are most likely an updated 1250? Music source is a Linn Klimax DS streamer.

I understood that pricing on the hi-fi gear was about the same as todays "industry accommodation" pricing of about 50% off list with base prices that would drop even lower upon model changeovers. What else were you going to spend your money on?

I have been in a couple of friend's houses (medical officers) that had spare rooms piled to the ceilings with hundreds of pieces of vintage "Nam" era hi-fi gear. Some receivers weighed about a 100lbs. I have never seen so many reel to reel decks in my life. They were slowly being refurbed and sold off at stupid prices. This was 15 years ago.

Buying them cheap is long gone.
