Certainly, in the future, human combatants will be reduced to again using only pointy sticks (I do not believe it is possible to exterminate humans from earth) but in the very near future, human combatants will be fighting against not just humans but drones, droids and humanoid type robots (check out the new TESLA thing).
As far as I am concerned, the sooner the better.
