So let me get this right... Due to widespread government fraud & inefficiency, we've decided to create a new government agency to look into it... And I'm supposed to be jazzed about this...?!?! 🙄

Color me unimpressed.

The proof will (or will not) be in the results. Elon has a great track record with staffing at Tesla and Space-X. He made huge cuts at Twitter and at the same time made improvements. We just have to wait it out, but they get less than 1.5 year's of funding, so it's not planned as a permanent addition to the Federal government.

Also, if you read what was actually put out, it's NOT a government department. It will exist outside the government to advise and consult with the administration. This is being done so it is not subject to federal government regulations on employment. Read what Trump actually published, not what the talking heads said.

All these "Government Department" comments also illustrate that we here are not immune from sound bite commentary leading to warped and incorrect understandings of what is going on. Always, always, always go back to the source and get read it yourself. Every single person who said, "New Government Department" and commented jumped to a conclusion based on incomplete information. There is a lesson there, if you are wise enough to understand it.

Some basic civics. The legislative branch creates departments, funds them and defines the duties of the officers.

Yes, I know that. Did you read the statement that Trump published? If so, did you read and comprehend the bit that says:

"... the Department of Government Efficiency will provide advice and guidance from outside of government, and will partner with the Whitehouse and OMB to drive large scale structural reform ..."

It's OMB that will yield the knife, because DOGE is not an actual government entity. At least the way I read it.

So, your statement, while factually correct, is entirely a non-sequitur because DOGE is not actually a government department, but an advisory group named in honor of a meme.

So, Downtown, I pose a couple of questions:
  1. Did you still think, despite my post, that this is a real government department, and hence graphically illustrate my closing point?
  2. Did you feel you wanted to somehow illustrate my lack of civics knowledge, by entirely missing the point of my initial post post. (See 1 above)
  3. Did you just feel like posting a non-sequitur to join in? If so, cool! Civics is fun!
Now, I'm entirely open to the notion that I am in fact wrong, and this is a real government department, but my reading of the original text would seem to indicate I'm right. Kind of the same thing I like to do with the constitution as well, read the original text.

So as a closing question that is open to everybody, and looking at the statement the same way a liberal reads the 2nd amendment and the role of the people, does "outside the government" really mean inside the executive branch and funded with federal dollars and very much inside the government? I'm all ears!

I'm going to assume the Bobs are involved somehow.

The funny thing it will not be a government agency. It will be a private think tank that only offers suggestions to the White House? Pres. Trump to with what he will.

Si.

The $64,000 question in all this is what efficacy do we expect from such an agency? Will it be $$ well spent?

What sticks and carrots will such an agency influence or control? Will Pete "God Wills It" Hegseth enforce through budget and policy whatever Trump and DOGE whisper in his ear? Will GWI even actually have that kind of power?

They missed the MF nut.

Founded in 1925, McLean Fogg's "Number 1 Lock Nut" eventually became the MF nut. Their first two customers were the Santa Fe Railroad and the Milwaukee Railroad

Used with regular square nuts to create a vibration resistant fit. When the MF lock nut contacts the regular nut, turn an additional 1/2 to 3/4's turn with wrench to firmly lock in place.

I have thrown away literally thousands of those stupid things away. Absolutely the dumbest piece of hardware ever!!

No, actually my comment wasn't intended for you personally at all. Just wanted to hitchhike on it to point out to those who were freaking out Trump was creating new bureaucracy that he really wasn't. We all know one of Trumps endearing traits is hyperbole, just another example. My apologies if it seemed I was doubting you.

Cool! No apology required really, but thanks anyway. I am in a really snarky mood today....

Govt Efficiency...is than not an oxymoron from the outset?

I'll make the popcorn. This is going to get good.

Yo does Joe hate Kamala more than he hates MAGA??? We know Jill voted for Trump. 😂

Asmongold just broke the record with breaking news just now. Look at Joe's purple tie. And the fact that he refused to step down so as to let Kamala enjoy 2 months of Presidency like a spoiled child...

This is absolutely surreal and we are witnesses to this live...
