I've been pounding nails just south of Madison for well over a decade now, and as much as I like to give the other trades crap, I've not once experienced any of the difficulties with them that I always hear people complaining about. Maybe it's just because in a relatively small community everyone's on a first name basis and no one wants to be "that guy" but they seem to be very leary about touching a stud or joist without talking it over first, even if they have to send pictures and make calls.I can relocate joists. You just need to talk to me before you butcher your way to where you need to go. I was a remodeling carpenter for about 10 years of my career. Anything can be done. It's gonna cost the homeowners some money, but it can be done. In all honesty, when I worked in the Madison Wisconsin area, all the other trades knew to come ask me before they cut into structure. Or to talk over a plan to get where they needed to go. Except HVAC of course.. they only stand out because they were literally the only trade with multiple problems. In other areas of the state and country it could be anyone.
Tell her to hit the gym. No body shop without effort to keep the investment up. That comes first. But consideration has to be given to age and kids. Some things can’t be undone.Shot no of it was my choice..it’s obvious which one
Kitchen came about a year ago the other day she sprung the body shop lol
Try...Oh yea….![]()

Dr Dover, Dr Ben Dover
She has the permanent cure. Will not EVER need a restraining order to handle some asshole guy harassing her.
Keep in mind that a lot of those "Independent businesses" also farm out to HD and Lowes. If their business is slow, they have to keep their guys/crews working.
We're in the middle of a remodel presently. We've had a contractor and a plumber come in to give us quotes on various things. We basically kicked both of them out after they gave us ridiculous quotes. The Trades have been quite busy lately and the contractors are creatures of opportunity/low hanging fruit. If you're looking to have reasonable work done for reasonable prices, you go to the back of the bus.
Don't be surprised if your guy just doesn't show up.
There are good contractors out there, they most likely are the ones you guys think are overpriced but like anything you get what you pay for. If you paid for better contractors you wouldn't have the issues that you are experiencing.
NOPE!
I don't really know your particular situation, my comments were more of a general statement and not at anyone in particular, but to put it in perspective it is like putting a Barska scope on your rifle and expecting Zero Compromise performanceI sort of hope he doesn't. I can pay someone else a premium to finish his work and come out money ahead.
We got estimates from five businesses. The guy we chose was within a hundred bucks of the highest estimatevand about 500 more than the next closest. He had the slab the wife liked best. As I mention, when they did the kitchen, it went great.
You can pay more for a Range Rover, but not get the quality of a Lexus.

I had this same problem. They always answer when my girl sends any kind of request though. My point is hiring people is a crap shoot no matter the cost. My mechanic is top notch. Always busy. He charges less for an oil change than the quick lube places…even with a military discount. Tire rotation is part of his service.
Someone mentioned small jobs. No kidding. Called four “handymen” about installing a patio door. Can’t get the time of day.
