Not sure about that pic, could well be one of ours, happens quite often down here. Years ago when car engine bays were more open it was not uncommon to run over a snake and find it in the engine bay later. Malaysia was actually the worst place for snakes, them Cobras would turn up everywhere, quite often doing pre flight inspection you would stick your head in the wheel well and be face to face with one. They also liked bathrooms for some reason.
One weekend two carloads of us were heading over the border to Thailand for a "haircut", suddenly all the doors opened on the lead vehicle and five guys "ejected" at 60 mph. A Cobra had come out from under the rear seat between the legs of the guy sitting in the middle. A village just outside the base lost several people to a 20+ foot Python while we were there

Union Hardtack A simple bread that was very tough which led to other nicknames such as “molar breakers” and “tooth dullers.” Many soldiers would break up the hardtack and mix it with water into a mush with molasses as a treat. Other times, they would fry the mush into a very plain pancake-type creation.
Ingredients:
2 cups of flour
½ to ¾ cup of water
1 tablespoon of Crisco or vegetable fat or lard
6 pinches of salt
Mix into a stiff batter and on a lightly floured surface, roll flat with a rolling pin to 1/3 of an inch thickness.
Trim the edges and cut the dough into squares.
Use a fork to poke holes into the squares.
Bake on a lightly greased sheet at 350 degrees for twenty to twenty five minutes or until golden brown.

Johnny Cakes
Simple, easy to make food that could be easily stored and transported.
They were also called “journey cakes” as they could be taken on a long journey
Ingredients:
1 cup cornmeal
¾ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon sugar
1 cup water
½ cup milk
Bacon drippings
Combine the cornmeal, salt, and sugar in a bowl.
Boil the water and then add slowly as you stir the dry ingredients.
Add the milk a little at a time to make sure the batter is not too runny.
Heat the bacon grease in a cast iron skillet and drop in the batter by the spoonful.
Brown on both sides and serve while hot.
No pictures, but one of the easiest, best tasting treats you can fix for the family. Apple Turnovers.
Start with a package of regular Pillsbury biscuits in the tube. Using a little flour, roll them out into about a 6-7" circle.
Now open a jar of chunky apple sauce and mix in cinnamon and sugar to your taste.
Place about 2 heaping tablespoons (more if you want, but not too much) onto the rolled out biscuit. Roll it over onto itself to make the turnover shape. Fold over the edges around the joined edges. Then use a fork to smash them together to prevent the apple stuffing from coming out.
Pour enough oil into a frying pan to cover about half of the turnover. About a half of an inch or so. Once the oil is hot, drop in a few of the turnovers.
Once they look golden brown, turn them over so the other aide can cook. Once they are done, put them on a paper towel covered dish and sprinkle a little more of the cinnamon/sugar mix. This you will have to experiment with, it's a personal taste issue.
It's one of the simplest apple turnovers you will ever make and tastes good too.
