I saw this the other day. I look at it and a voice in my head says 350+70=420.

It's been there since like 7th grade.

Same here.
I tried watching a kid do that convoluted horse shit a couple of years ago.
Nothing like taking something simple and introducing more potential errors.

I wonder how they can use that and count money. Would it require making change first?
Wait, that's why no-one uses cash now.

a few years ago i was in my kids parent teacher welcome conference and of course the math came up etc.

me being a math person sees absolutely no need for it so i was bs'ing with some other dads etc.

teacher kind of called me on it because she is a true believer in that crap (actually found out she was a nasty lesbo that was moved out next year).

i said..

math is the basis of engineering and there is no debate 2+2 =4 across the world..

she said yes, and thats why we have to keep up with the rest of the work in their teaching..

i then said the greatest engineering feat of humanity was landing on the moon (by then my wife had her head down)..

i then said loudly kind of cutting her off...parents raise you hand if you know the first and only country to put men on the moon...

of course 2-3 said the US..

then i said, did they have common core back then, didn't think so...so i guess we are now following the losers...

does anyone else want to follow the losers or want to follow the winners

she was physically red, got a few chuckles too

made sure my kid got 100's that year to piss her off as well.

When my daughter was 7 or 8, I taught her the same method you refer to. Ya shoulda seen her eyes light up, once she got it (didn't take long). It was priceless. I had her multiplying two, 3 decade, oddball numbers in her head in no time. Will never forget that experience :):cool::cool:

Please explain... I thought it was 35x12..... not 350+70.... but then again I was a biology major??

Split the smaller number into decades;
(35x10)+(35x2)=350+70=420

edit; here's the funny thing guys......I don't recall any of my teachers in school ever teaching this. I didn't pay attention to them very much, so they could have and I just missed it. The real funny part of it is that I didn't think of this until I was probably 40 years old......kind of embarrassing. It's so bloody simple, fast and easy to remember.......Of the things that I know, there are good things and bad things. The good things, particularly the ones that are noteworthy tend to "occurr" to me, rather than me thinking my way through the rabbit hole and successfully coming out on the other side. This was one of them that occurred to me, so I sat down with pencil and paper one day and starting dissecting it. I can multiply most pairs of 3 digit numbers in my head. Maybe that's not a big deal to some (or most), but I kind like the fact that I figured out how to do it.

Hi,

Who cares what cartridge you want for your EDC pistol lol, because the pistols only job is to get you back to your rifle :)
It is not to keep you there fighting.....
5.7x28 goes through more shit than 9mm or 45acp....you know...just encase subject is wearing "heavy".

Sincerely,
Theis

What I carry gets me to the truck. What’s in the truck gets me home or to the shack. If we can’t ride it out at one of those locations it’s a REALLY bad day.

IDK of any situation where I'll need my EDC to get me back to my rifle... outside of SHTF apocalyptic type scenario. This isn't Ramadi, or Kabul... and I don't intend to keep fighting after the threat is nuetralized...

There isn’t one, until there is. Think of it like ammo or firewood. There is no such thing as too many, too much, or too dead. I would send an AT4-S at a squirrel if he was after my nuts.
