C-rations were indeed WWII issue. The dates on the boxes of the meals that I ate were 1944 and 1945! And that was in 1976-1979 when I ate them.

Actually, the ham slice and dehydrated pork party MREs were my favorites at that time. I detested the chicken a la king and the ham& chicken frankenfood entrees, however.

The dehydrated beef and pork patties were worse than dog biscuits but the ham slices I thought were good.
“They” removed the ham slices from our stock 84/85 and I never saw that meal again. Word was that people got bad sick. Just a dumb shovel operator so what would I know.
