I agree, I have seen domesticated squirrels, that can, and even like to be handled.

We had a pet squirrel for several years when I was a kid. And had this litle bugger briefly about ten or so years ago. But I have had wild, though very"tame" ones that would come when called, sit on my shoulder, on my lap or even in my hand. Got bit gentle a few times, where they thought a fingertip was the food lol.

Years ago a friend had a pet squirrel named Thole. She had long thick red hair and Thole would sit on her shoulder and hide under her hair. It was hilarious to sss the reactions of those who didn't know whenever he would pop out.

One bedroom had a pine needle sticking out…dad wanted to see what going on. So I tap the wall incase there is a hive or something.
Take out the Sheetrock saw and start poking around. Well, after I take a 8x8 chunk off the wall a squirrel falls out, and there are 3 more in the wall…holy shit lol
So I grab the little black trash bin and put it over the hole, now those 3 are freaking out inside the bin. But the one that escaped is running like a maniac up the walls and such.
My dad runs out and closed the door on me lol
Fucking squirrel noticed me and is now climbing up and down my leg/body trying to get back the squirrels squeeking and bouncing around, full on disaster.
I was stuck waiting to get bit but if I moved I’d have 4 running around.
He finally comes up with another bin with a small with a small screen and I get them all out etc.
It must have looked like a Benny hill episode.
