The code upgrades for snow load on residential construction are outrageous in the Tahoe basin. If you own a house there I hope you pay extra for code upgrades on your homeowner insurance. I worked one job where the homeowner didn't have that coverage. The snow damage to the structure was $87K, the code upgrade was another $250K which he had to pay out of pocket. I am glad I don't have to deal with any Tahoe dwellers anymore. Two pearls of wisdom from a friend when I moved to Tahoe; make sure the roof doesn't dump on driveways or decks, and avoid North facing driveways.
I agree totally, but I have header bolts that can’t be reached with a torque wrench. Also a good reason to use a torque wrench.
That's shitty. But at the same time, so is a 2x4 rafter. I would be fired for just suggesting such blasphemy. The code upgrades for snow load on residential construction are outrageous in the Tahoe basin. With this kind of damage they will not replace just the damaged rafters, the entire structure has to be upgraded to current code.
