you might want to add some angle iron, never hurts to have a little extra help

That's the strut for the road wheels on a no till drill.
It slides in and out of another piece of tubing that's part of the frame to raise and lower the drill so there was no room to scab it. Nor was there a need to.
Had it broke an inch higher I would've had to grind the weld cap off so the strut could fit up inside the other piece of tubing when the drill was lowered.
It was a 100% full pen weld so I'm not worried about it breaking again.
A previous owner bent the strut while the drill was in the raised position and had a welder (cough cough) splice on a new piece of tubing but he/she/they/it did a poor job.
Here's a sub frame( for lack of a better term) I built for a clients JD 220 harrow in the background last winter.
It's the part the tongue mounts to.
