Damn right it does! My wife got into a car accident with my the 2.5 year old son in the backseat. He went from shaken to a happy little boy in a flash when a fireman handed him a stuffed Taz to keep.
If your dept/crew does this, thank them from a parent who has seen what a difference that it can make.
