A car battery has the amperage to hurt you, but 12 volts can't overcome the resistance of skin so it is almost impossible to even feel a shock. The real risk is creating sparks around fuel.
Anyone who has spent time around cars knows to just deal with the negative cable....less "spitzen mit sparkenen" LOL
May I suggest Klein 63050, made for cutting cable and will make quick work of any battery cable you will run into.

I relayed this similar hunting experience to @Mike Casselton it still cracks me up. Thermal hog hunting late one night ~ 4 years ago......pulled up to gate to leave ranch took one last look and poof I see a big ol boar hog pounding a sow to smitherines so for the next 30 seconds I'm laughing so hard I can barely keep the reticle to a 10moa circle I mean I'm freaking dying.
