I think you'd be amazed how awful this was if you go watch the trial. As bad as you THINK, it was 50 times worse. This trial destroyed the final tiny shreds of faith I had in our system. I am talking police, prosecutors, witnesses etc outright lying about what was JUST PLAYED on a video in front of everyone.
It's unreal.
Got one of these and another Ramset, trigger fired model in my toolbag along with a ton of yellow and green .22 blanks. Use them all the time on the job. They are fun...
One of the new guys saw me using it, asked to borrow it. After just 2 minutes of me giving a basic rundown of how it works, he was setting studs into concrete like a pro... Never even looked at the Paslodes the shop used again. He got his own Ramset the next day.
I was involved in a Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) case once, where the well funded defense presented a video of the "Our driver" at a later date driving fast and recklessly. They had been video stalking the him for weeks, hoping to find a jewel for their case. The Private Investigator (PI) swore under oath they had followed the Our driver, and this was real and actual video of him. We let them roll with it. Then we destroyed them with photographs of the car which is owned by the Our driver. It was different than the one in the video. They had set up a staged video, and hoped we would not notice it was one model year different (third tail light in the body, as versus in the rear window).
As a consequence the judge "allowed" the senior opposing attorney to "retire" from the case, and they quickly moved towards a settlement. This is an example of what normally happens when an attorney is caught portraying or purveying false information. As they were being sued for losses, simply dismissing or retrying the case would have harmed the wrong party. Normally, there is some measure of shame when they are caught with their hands in the cookie jar. They also know that any future case presented before that judge, will be met with a reasonable measure of skepticism. Once proven a liar, it is a taint which is hard to remove. It was also well understood the PI testimony would never be allowed in his court, ever.

Don't mind getting scratched either. Spitting though? That automatically earns a face punch with full power behind it... THAT is most definitely not my fetish... Just like other primal, instinctive reactions, the disdain towards spitters, spitting on others, and being spat upon probably goes way back to prehistoric times where the act of spitting has already been used as an insult, and a very bad insult at that. During the Classic Age of Dueling, (1565-1910), spitting means you better be prepared to walk onto that field at dawn the next day with pistol or saber in hand.
