Who'd thunk you could get this close to 'em?

One of 'em started giving me the stink eye so the closest I got was about 2' and those horns look really pointy at that range.

It's actually kind of sad, they (family of 4) were very trusting and this will probably be their downfall...

LOL, One of them started doing the foot pounding thing... That was the end of my attempted harassment.

Nice picture! Wonder why they are nosing around in the gravel when there is green grass in the area? Maybe they are used to being fed...

They do that for the salt. They also lick handrails and anything else with salt on them. There are a lot of people who drop off salt blocks for them as well.

Re: Mountain goats Up close and personal.

10/18/2010-Reports indicate that Robert Boardman, an experienced outdoorsman, was killed by an unruly mountain goat while hiking with his wife and a friend in Washington's Olympic National Park.

The goat was characterized and known for its aggressive behavior and the park rangers said they would try to instill fear upon the goat by hazing it.

Park rangers repeatedly threw rocks at it and shot it with bean bags in order to instill a fear of humans, or so they say, but apparently it backfired.

Boardman noticed that he and his group were being followed by the goat so he attempted to scare it off so they could escape. Unfortunately no good dead goes unpunished as the Mountain goat gouged his leg and he was flown to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Whoa, these goats didn't even care I was there but I could see how taking one of those spines could do some good damage!

Re: Mountain goats Up close and personal.

It gored him in the thigh and then stood over him for a good while before the people with him could get it to move away. The hikers/rescuers that showed up started CPR but...well you know the rest.

That section of trail got alot of goat complaints the last couple years and the rangers had been bean bagging it....the sort of good side to the story is the goat was killed about 2 hours after they flew him out.
