First off, what brands do you have experience with that you would reccomend? I'd assume badger, seekins, night force, etc are all gtg, but thought I'd ask people with more experience than I.

Secondly, aside from the obvious, what are the pros/cons to steel base/rings vs aluminum base/rigs?

I have used a few of the popular brands and I absolutly love ARC M10's. You cant really go wrong with any of the top brands. I'm also a fan of Warne rings in the mid price range. M10's are kinda pricey but zero marks on the scope and super easy to install. Seekins would be my next choice after the M10s. Just my .02

I've never heard anything bad about any of the brands you've listed. My personal experience with Seekins has been excellent.

I think a well made aluminum ring/base combo is certainly strong enough. After all, the scope tube is aluminum, so any blow that would damage the rings is likely to have done equally nasty things to the scope itself.

No difference if you buy quality. You can buy crappy steel or aluminum or buy a quality set in either. Buy quality. I have been running Seekins aluminum since they came out and never had a problem holding heavy scopes on heavy recoiling rifles, flying or match use.

In case you missed it, buy quality.
