Hi,
I'm mounting a new Nightforce scope on a new Rem LTR. I have nightforce one piece base and nightforce rings also. I want to do this correct on the first try. I'll be using a Borka torque wrench and will clean and degrease the base holes and use blue loctite. I will follow the Nightforce instructions on torque settings. Is there anything else I should be aware of? The base and scope will most likely never be removed as long as I own it. Any help appreciated.

Re: Mounting Nightforce on Rem LTR

use the search here, try the feeler gauge method as it simplifies things.Double check eye relief in your intended shooting positions, ie prone, bench, kneeling etc and get it right before tightening down the rings. Also many say go as low as possible with rings so your scope is very close to barrel. This is good and bad, going too low may force you into an unnatural position compromising cheek weld and adding other variables that may affect your shooting. Lastly if for any reason you are questioning can you do this, take it to a reputable smith, nightforce are not cheap to mess up compared to getting it done right the first time. Good luck

Re: Mounting Nightforce on Rem LTR

Thank you for the reply. I'd take it to the smiths nearest me but I don't trust them. They will just take it into the back and crank down on it with a torx wrench and charge me $30. I'd like to learn this myself and do it properly.

I purchased the "low" Nightforce rings as was suggested on this forum. I understand eye relief and the shooting positions. Try them multiple times before tightening. Not sure why I would need feeler gauges to mount the scope. I'm using all Nightforce components. the Nightforce base is specifically made for the Remington 700. I will research it and appreciate the suggestions. Thank you.

Re: Mounting Nightforce on Rem LTR

I have the 1.00 medium rings on my NF and i think they are perfect.

NF rings on a NF scope dont need any lapping, so your good to go.

Just make sure you put the right length actions screws in their holes and you should be right when you install the base.

On an AICS stock, I think if i had low rings I would have trouble with the cheek piece as currently I dont raise it at all.

On a HS stock such as that on the LTR, I think you might be ok but barrel clearance will be tiny. You probably wont get the bikini cover on but im not 100% sure on that. These are also med rins on a Police model 700.

Re: Mounting Nightforce on Rem LTR

Thanks! Great looking rig you have there. There are TWO different sized screws that came with the Nightforce base. I assume they should both be equal length sticking out the BOTTOM of the base before I mount it? There were no instructions included from Nightforce that came with the base. It came with 5 mounting screws. Three were long and two were shorter. Do you apply grease to the bottom of the base before mounting or leave it dry? Thanks again for the help.

RE: Screw Length - Short goes in front hole to clear barrel threads (assuming same base thickness dimension as Badger).

RE: Feeler gauge - Facilitates leveling the scope using the flat surface of the rail to the flat surface of the bottom of turret housing. Do a search for details.

RE: Base to action - Do NOT grease. Use blue Locktite. It helps secure the base and keeps moisture out between the surfaces. Some guys bed with Devcon.

Re: Mounting Nightforce on Rem LTR

Do you mean use loctite on the screws AND smear it under the base? Would Never-seez be more appropriate as I am familiar with that product? I appreciate the help.
