Frank's Lesson's Contest
We want to see your skills! Post a video between now and November 1st showing what you've learned from Frank's lessons and 3 people will be selected to win a free shirt. Good luck everyone!
Having the mount for the Magnetospeed allows getting chrono data without any interference with the barrel harmonics, which means one can shoot this way and not be concerned if there'll be any POI shift like most often happens when it's attached to the barrel. So, using this mount makes gathering more data where it can be used every time one in shooting (except for when hunting ). It's just as easy to mount the MatnetoSpeed with the Wiser Mount as it is to just the Magnetospeed to a barrel (depending on the barrel configuration as many suppressors on the barrel can be a challenge for direct mounting).
Really depends on your load development technique and what you're comfortable with. I do a chrono-ladder 0.020 from JAM find my velocity node. Then test seating depths. Having the V3 for the ladder is of no consequence and I don't use it testing seating depths because basically I don't want to know. Once I have settled on a load, I validate velocity and again in different temps as needed. I actually own a remote mounting arm but only use it when I have no other option.
It doesn’t matter if you strap it to the barrel or not. It will always affect you POI unless the setup clicks with the harmonics of the barrel and load.
I’ve used several mounts that get it off the barrel. But my POI will move away from the bayonet. For example if it’s mounted at 6 o’clock, the rounds will impact higher at 12 o’clock than without the magneto there.
I keep mine on a wiser mount purely for ease of use. Just put it on the arca rail and done.
You really shouldn’t need to chrono all that much if you’re doing things right. So not a big deal.
Anyone not seeing poi shift with mount either has lucked out on the harmonics or isn’t shooting small enough groups or shooting well enough to notice.

Hmmm??? No doubt that anything attached to the weapon system or even touching it is going to change the harmonics to some degree. Maybe my shooting with my .308 in the 3's isn't good enough to see any POI shift the way I have mine attached (it's attached directly to a picatinny rail on the hand guard), but if there is a shift as you describe, it a damm small shift in my case.

The next batch of Magneto speed mounts are almost ready. This batch features a double rod clamp which makes the unit useable on virtually any pic rail mount that encompasses the forend section. I will also be including my recommended (caliber/bullet material dependent) distance from bore to the flat bayonet portion - in order to get repeatable readings without effecting point of impact change when unit is removed.
Here are a few pics. Keep in mind the picture with the 2 pic rail mounts is actually the bottom of the forend tube when shooting the TUBBGUN. Notice how the double rod clamp allows infinite adjustability in approx. a 3" circle.

The spacing recommendations will be very helpful. That has been the only time I’ve been able to alleviate the POI change. But then playing with sensitivity comes into play.
Having it somewhat already figured out and included with literature is nice.
