Any issues with mounting the rings really close to the objective? Picked up a SWFA 3-9 on my hunting rifle. Best place for my eyes ended up being very close to the bell. Using Seekins rings and Burris Xtreme bases. I could move the rings one notch back, or leave it.
Scope is working fine. I measured either side of the rings with a caliper and both were the same, so I’m still clamped to the tube.

First impression of the 3-9: nice turrets maybe a touch stiff, good glass, but a little concerned that the reticle is pretty small at 9x. I’m using the 5-20hd on another gun and obviously at higher mag it’s a bigger reticle. Wouldn’t mind it being a little thicker at 9x. The fixed SS 10x I had seemed to have a thicker reticle. Oh well, maybe my old ass needs glasses.

Many dislike the idea and will even say that under recoil, the bell hits the barrel due to some flex in the rings.

Personally, I've never ever had those problems or at least never noticed them...

personal experience with SB PMII 4-16x50 mounted with one piece mount with front ring very close to objective cone area. No problem at all. But be beware, that you leave small distance between main tube and taper, otherwise damage to the tube or ring can occur...
