is this necessary? or is lapping more so for rifles where the rail holes are drilled into the receiver and not mounted on a rail that is attached to the frame like the SRS?

is there anything else i should be paying attention to when mounting the scope. I will have it as forward as possible so as to not be slightly moved over time by recoil.

thanks

By DTA rings I think you mean the one piece mount right?

I have an SRS, a DTA 30 MOA mount, and a S&B 5-25 in it.

Regardless, do not lap. I don't know if it helps but I clean the scope tube and ring bores with rubbing alcohol, with the idea that anything oily might sacrifice the grip.

You probably know the rest. I set mine with the turrets roughly centered between the rings. Then move the entire scope/mount combo to get eye relief close, then tighten the mount screws. I then loosen the rings screws enough to slide the scope to fine tune eye relief. Lastly I use feeler gages to get the scope level to the mount, and tighten all mount/rings screws using a high quality torque wrench. I use a Seekonk.

correct, i have the one piece DTA standard rings. (they have HTI "50BMG" rings, and then the standard rings that they offer)
