Mounts for POF

Hey guys, I need some help on getting a mount for my new POF so I thought I would pick your brains some..... I have the POF 308 with the monolithic rail and was wanting a QD type mount. I intend to keep the Vltor collapsible stock so I can swap from a scope to a CCO. I looked at Larue and I am afraid it will be to high for a solid cheek weld. What are you guys running as far as QD type stuff on the monolithic rail??? I intend on staying 40mm or less on the objective of the scope also (nightforce 2x10x32 or Luppy 3.5x10x40) I am very concerned about a solid cheek weld as I will "air out" this rifle alot but want it to be able to fill a dual role if needed.

Killshot I have studied your photo of your rifle and while I like it and the stock, that mount is WAY to high for a collapsible stock. If you notice, you have the cheek weld cranked up high to accomodate the propper height! The monolithic rail is much higher than a regular flattop. If you dont mind, try cranking the cheek weld all the way down flat and see if its too low???

I also use the AD Recon on a P308 with a 50mm NF. Centerline of the optic is 3.1" above the bore, so the VLTOR cheekweld is not good for me. The PRS cheekweld is perfect.

I used a Bobro for a while. It is a nice mount. Too high without a PRS for me...depends on the shooter i expect.

QD mount is gonna be tough to get low as you'd like with a carbine stock.
The rail is already 3/8" higher than other flattops.

USO makes their mounts in a 1.2" height which is the best I've found.

I needed 20moa on my particular rifle to get me where I wanted and went with the NF low Unimount. Not QD, but if you cut a box wrench in half and drop it in your gear (or little compartment on either a pistol grip or buttstock) you can have it off in no time and if you put it back on, do the nuts finger tight, then turn them 1/4 turn it is as repeatable as the best out there. And actually their low is low enough you need the new POF HSR rail to use it. Their higher mount may clear a straight top rail, but you'd have to check.

The extra time taken would only really matter if you were under fire, and if you were using the rifle in that type of scenario for real, I doubt you'd be asking online.....

With the cheek weld collapsed, you cannot see through the optic. Well, at least I'm unable to. What I see when I open my eye is where the rings attach to the mount. Hope that helps, for better or worse.

For choosing the right mount, sobrbiker883 is going to be the best source of knowledge on this topic.

Maybe try looking into the American Defense Recon SL model. At 1.110 inches, I think that's pretty low and I don't know if it will work in your application. You may want to check if the scope will fit it you don't have the new HSR rail. Midway shows that particular mount in stock.

Larue also makes lower height qd scope rings but they're 2 piece. Probably not what you're looking for.

There is no hard and fast rule for mount height, particularly on a battle rifle. It may not be necessary to have the same cheekweld you'd want on your long rage precision weapon. Part depends on your preference. The most important thing is to have a clear sight picture.

I have a couple LaRue 135 QDs with NF 1-4x24s mounted on Sig 556s, which I modified by eplacing the Sig folder with Magpul MOE stocks. The LT-135 is "extra" tall at 1.93". I chose the LT-135s specifically due to the right side charging handles on the Sig 556s, which create knuckle-busting issues with a lower mount. Now I'll be the first to admit my head may be a lot fatter than most, but I have no difficulty in getting/maintaining a decent cheekweld and a good sight picture with the LT-135. So the bottom line is that you need to find out what mount height works best for you, because YMMV.

I actually think that may be the lowest height high quality one piece mount out there... I actually found this one a few hours ago and was checking it out. If that dont work I guess I will just go with a set of TPS rings. I guess it will not really be any different than any other precision rifle with rings other than I will have to carry a wrench if needed! Thanks for the replys guys.
