ok I am relocating to TN. western TN to be more precise. its been my dream to move my family out of blue NJ for red south. Just so happens TN seems to fit the bill. Im not opposed to AL, or MS but TN is where my industry seems to be growing, Thats said what am I up against? is the NO state income tax really that great? from what I'm reading TN taxes everything else through sales tax. Is this tax getting better or worse? I've been trying to brush up on gun rights and I have to say....it looks like its going to be a whole new world for me and my family. but what I am trying to ask whats the downside to TN? if there is any. because as I write this I can't really see any.

Lower taxes equates to less infrastructure and whatnot.
Try not to be one of "those out of state people" who decide one day to say "You know what? We need more street lights. Why don't we propose a 1 or 2 penny tax to help pay for them??".
That's how shit gets fucked up. I'm a California boy, but I never have and never ever will vote for a tax increase once I move out of the leftist state.
Edit: I personally am eyeballing east TN areas like Gatlinburg and surrounding.

Personally I would move to the eastern side of the state. I cannot think of too many things I do not like about Tennessee. The no state income tax is great but we do have a 9.75% sales tax. But it allows the citizens to control the purse strings.
For the most part you get all four seasons, some are longer than others but we see all four seasons. Sometimes we even see all four seasons in the same day. In the winter we get snow and in the spring we get pollen. If you have allergies Tennessee can be pretty rough.
Tennessee does its own background checks then notifies the feds instead of waiting on the fed to give permission.
The gun laws are great for the most part. The worst part is most gun laws are written so you have committed a crime unless you have an exception. It is written that anyone, and everyone, has committed the crime of carrying a firearm unless you can prove you have an exception like a handgun carry permit. You can carry openly or concealed. You cannot open carry a long gun unless you do not possess ammunition. You can carry a loaded long gun in your car with a permit. You do not need a permit to carry a handgun in your car. There is not a lot of public lands to shoot on.
The cost of living is still low compared to most other states. Property taxes can be very high or very low depending on where you live. I live in a county with very little going on so our taxes are pretty high compared to counties with tourism or a lot of industry.
I tell this to anyone moving to Tennessee, remember why you are leaving where you are coming from and do not try to change Tennessee into the place you left.

sounds great. LOl, I'm not looking to change shit. Im moving there because it is what it is. East tn, looks awesome with the the hills and mountains, but definitely more people. West/central TN, looks to be where I can get a good chunk of land ( that I can afford) and more space between people. Plus love all the small towns and small town atmosphere.
Tennessee is great! Property is cheap, living is cheap, and the state is gorgeous. Stay out of Memphis though. The outskirts like Arlington are nice but closer than that isn't worth it. Be sure to get in an area with good schools whether you have kids or not. You will thank me later. K and M is in Finger, TN. Super nice facility. Memphis Sport Shooting Association is a great place for load work ups and facilitate many different hobbies and disciplines. They have a 600yd and a 300yd range, 100yd covered ranges, 50yd pistol ranges, steel, cowboy action and one of the largest trap and skeet areas around. The shotgun stuff is a big draw with the area high schools. Also they have on site ponds to fish in and work your labrador if you have one. I PCS'ed back to Virginia but we are buying a home in East TN very soon.
