Just got my gun set up in a mpa competition chassis and have some questions about how you guys are using the lug lock set up that is coming with the new ones. First of all is this a good thing for accuracy? and if so should I tighten the lug lock screw before the action screws? How many inch pounds should I tighten it to?

So I tooled a very rough 0.437" insert for my MPA Competition with Nucleus action. I used 7/16 nominal (0.4375") soft tool steel rod from McMasterCarr and rough cut it to about 0.550"(?), then drilled it on a drill press with a 10-32 tap kit and subsequently tapped it.

I'm looking to do the same, just haven't had time. No issues using steel? The lug locks that came with chassis are aluminum.

It's soft steel, has not been hardened. I torqued it to about 15 inch pounds. Recoil impulse would be pulling the lug toward the rear. Shouldn't be an issue, but I guess I'll find out. Another possible at-home solution is to cutoff and nest 9mm/10mm/45acp brass together and pop a hole through it. The brass will be softer than aluminum and might work.

Why did you have to make a insert for your Nuke, wouldn’t one of the three provided inserts work?

No, the Nucleus uses a 0.185" thick lug, which I think matches the R700 specification. The MPA lug lock expects a thicker recoil lug, since that's pretty common practice to 'upgrade' in aftermarket R700 pattern actions. In order to get a lug that meets the 0.185" I needed to create the 0.437" lug lock bearing shown above. I think the MPAs ship with either two or three, depending on when it was originally purchased. None of those sizes match up with the 0.185" recoil lug.

I’ll have to recheck mine. I thought it was holding it in my Nuke. I used the biggest of the three.
