So I am putting together an MPA Comp stock and I have a barreled TIKKA TAC A1 action. Once I put the action in the stock and place a Sphur mount on it, I can not get the bubble levels of both of them to match up. Any Ideas.

When you put a level on the picatinny rail, does that level match up with the MPA? If not, either the action isn’t sitting plumb to the mpa level or the picc rail in the action isn’t level to the mpa.

Pick which level you want to use and plumb the reticle to that.

MPA is easier to see. I’d go with that when plumbing reticle.

Another option: Mount the rifle in a fashion that is comfortable and repeatable for your body, regardless if it is perfectly plumb, so that when you mount the gun you are not fighting it and/or uncomfortable. Then align your reticle to gravity with a plumb line and use a level that allows you to adjust it's placement based on this setup rather than trying to align your body and your scope to a level that was arbitrarily placed in your chassis. If the result is that your rifle is slightly canted but your reticle is plumb to gravity, you will be better off than if you mounted everything based on the chassis level and then every time you get behind the rifle you fight it trying to get comfortable you end up ignoring the level and canting your reticle.

This is good advice here and is what I typically try to do.

This proves a HUGE POINT I have been trying to make

Don't waste your time with these levels, it's not worth it.

The Spuhr level is more of a mounting level with the system off the rifle, the MPA, well Phil and I have a good laugh about that one, it was Hooters, we were drinking I was being Frank, you get the pictures

If you have to waste your money on a level because your brain won't let you do anything else, it has to be a scope mounted version that can be adjusted to match the reticle to the bubble. Anything else is wrong.

What would be the best "fixes" for those things?

(1) The Action is not mounting up plumb with the level in the chassis? Or,

(2) The rail is not plumb with the level in the chassis?

Just curious about this. I've thought about it before and was curious why this sort of thing didn't come up more for discussion.

I like a level for practicing.. The butt pad is canted to me, reticle level to the horizon, then the level to the reticle.. usually it ends up being rather neutral anyway.

If something feels really wrong with the way the MD makes me get behind the gun I might glance at the level - usually NOT..

I'll gladly get rid of my levels if someone can make my LOP on my AX, Manners and MPA chassis 12-1/2 adjusting out to 13-1/2 rather than 13-1/4 out to stretch armstrong!!!

Point being, the level is the least of my worries...

levels anywhere else but on the scope tube are a gimmick, and the levels on the scopes are normally used incorrectly anyway

In what way?

I've seen them mounted were the NPA is not in anyway agreeing... and the shooter muscle to aline the gun or are you thinking how it is used bubble touching the line for level vrse between them

I was just being silly anyway.. But no I want my MPA NOT to have such crazy LOP.. I am 5'10" and it is to long imaging if your much shorter.
+1
I sold off my MPA folders because they are a little bit longer than the non folders.. and the non folder is still a hair longer than I'd like but I make it work. I'm 5'-6" with T-rex arms. Apparently you can order them with shorter LOP but I have no idea what the lead time on that would be..
