    MURPH the Protector

A documentary celebrating the life of Lieutenant Michael P. Murphy who was posthumously awarded the Metal of Honor after leading his SEAL team in operation redwing.

    Just finished watching it...

It has interviews from his family and paints a portrait of his life before the military, the troubling times his family had waiting the five days it took for them to find out what had happened and the support they received afterward. If you enjoy those types of documentaries you will like it.

If you are looking for more of an after action report or information about the mission you will be disappointed.

It would be nice if someone in Hollywood or one of the networks (history channel are you listening) would pick up the ball and make a Medal of Honor series. The scrip’s have already been written... they should start with WW2 recipients before they are all gone. It would be far better than any of that staged reality crap that seems to be everywhere.

I did pre-production work for a mini-series along those lines back in 2002 - each episode was a vignette about a MOH recipient. Ultimately the studio shelved it and the production company couldn't get anyone else to pick it up with a comparable or better budget. All of which was frustrating because the scripts were quite good but ultimately the problem was the locations were so varied that the production costs were extremely high. My buddy and I were brought in to find a way to bring down the on-location costs by using visual effects instead, but back then it was still too expensive.
