Depends how averse you are to recoil. They do make getting back on target faster which can aid with spotting impacts, and follow up shots, if that's a problem for you. They also increase noise which can cause more problems for some shooters than recoil, and allot of fellow range users bitch about them, depending on design they can also kick up allot of dust. They are 5/8 by 24tpi generally, and obviously if you intend to suppress at somepoint one that's also an adapter would be wise. I wouldn't put one on a bolt action .308, as I find even sporter weight ones quite managable, but many do.
