Purchased a savage model 12 lrp in 260 remington, shoots excellent. Want to install a muzzle brake to minimize muzzle jump, anybody have recommedations and does it affect accuracy? The barrel isnt threaded but thats not a problem, I'll cut it and thread it. The clamp on brakes are probably good but not sure about them any input?
Found the following article about muzzle brakes Adventures With Muzzle Brakes | RVB Precision

sounded good but wanted to get other opinions

No a muzzle brake wont effect accuracy as long as the threads are correct and the brake is correct. I had a clamp on brake that worked awesome. Just be careful with the clamping screw. tightening it down too much will effect accuracy. I was looking for a load for a few weeks before I realized my problem was an over toqrued clamp screw.

What brand of clamp on brake did you have?

I have heard good things about the Kahntrol brake.

But I looked at the clamp on brakes and there were $150 and up. A Ross Schuler brake is $45. I paid $125 to have the barrel cut, re-crowned, threaded, brake timed and installed, contoured to the barrel, and Cerakoted (Short Action Customs). For for $170 plus shipping, I have a threaded brake installed.

Kish, did you get a muzzle brake. I made my own clamp on brake for my Tikka 595. It is very similar to the Roedale brake made in Germany. The brake worked very well so I had a number of them made on a friends CNC for all of my rifles. They are taper bored for the specific barrels. I do have some extras for 24 and 26" REM heavy, 20 and 24" FNH. I plan to bore brake for 20" REM also. Dan
