Muzzle Brakes To Consider???

I am having a rough time deciding on what muzzle brake to go with for my Rem700 SS 5-R .300 Win Mag

So I figured id post a new thread with all the current brakes I am looking at and the two I am most leaning on... What I would like to know is your thoughts/reviews with these brakes and if I am missing anyother brakes to consider?

I am looking to tame the kick of the .300

So here is the list:

1. The RAD (As suggested by "Onoko")

Out of these four here, I am leaning heavy on number 4 "JP Large Profile" and number 2 "FSC30". I do like the surefire but I live in California so I would never be able to own the Silencer
I have searched for the past 2 days on muzzle brakes and these are the four I seem to read about most, but you never know maybe I missed a few to consider and missed the why/why not to get one of these?

This is the email he sent me when I did my inquiry:
"I have brakes in .875==1"==1.250 I need to know the caliber and the thread pitch you want. I also need to know the dia of your barrel if you want it tapered to match your barrel dia. Price is 45.00 shipped Ross"

He advises against turning down his brakes to match your barrel's contour, if that's what you're looking for. A good brake for that is the Badger Thruster brake, but everything with a 5/8x24 thread pitch is on back order.

Others to consider that I know work really well are, APA Little Bastard, Badger Thruster, and Holland Quik Discharge. The only reason I feel to have the Surefire is for a suppressor.

Surefire makes great brakes and i have one on my 6.8 SPC....I run SAS muzzle brakes on my bolt guns - they allow for the SAS Arbiter .308/.300 Win Mag suppressor to threaded directly onto the brake, somewhat similar to Surefire or Advanced Armament. One of my bolt guns is a .300 WM (Mk 13 Mod 5ish) and it does a great job cutting down felt recoil. I shoot my .300 fairly often and, in fact, can shoot it pretty much all day with minimal shoulder pain.

I went with a Shrewd brake. It works extremely well at taming recoil, but the bottom ports allow for a lot of material kick up.. Because of this I'm really considering switching over to the sure fire brake...

I've got a RAD on my .300WM. I don't know if it's any better or worse than others but the price wasn't bad & it works. I'd buy another one.

My favorites are Badger's Thruster and American Precision Arms bastard line of brakes.

I have an apa little bastard on 7wsm, little jimmy on 6.5-284, Schuler on 7mag, the APA's tame them down to about a 22-250 or less. Only complaint has been the rearward blast to anyone not standing directly behind you. Schuler is also very effective & costs is 1/3rd. Machining on Schuler brake is equal to apa. I have a centershot 3 port on a 6CM that I really like also. 1st port is 90* front two are angled rearward but doesn't give same rearward report as APA. Can't beat Ross' brake for looks, effectiveness, or money. I will try to post video of little bastard & Ross in action. All mentioned in thread are no doubt effective.

please do not exclude the"muscle break" by centershot rifles . had a slab style installed on my factory barrel rem. 700 in 7mm Rm .24" brrl . and i swear it now kicks less than a 30-30 with 160 ftx, shootin the 162 a-max,and astout load for 154 sst.absolutely amazed by it. got the round style on my wfes .308 . that style onher factory tube still kicks more than a30-30 but alot less than it did .chutn 180 sgks ,178 amax . probaly going to reduce bullets to the 150 grner.forher.

Have a look at RPA, really. They´ve invested in the development, and they haven´t missed on that. The brake works, and is considerably perceived even on lesser calibers like 308.

I have APA Little Bastard on my .300 Win, and Centershot Muscle brake on my .260 both are very effective. Muscle brake is what all of my future rifles will have.

I had Ross make me a break a few years. It was nice being able to give someone dimensions and then in a week it arrives and is to exact specs. I also run surefire brakes and love them.

Another Hide member shot my 7WSM with a LB brake against his .308 with a RD brake and it was no contest.

My LB braked 7WSM has less recoil then my suppressed .243 AW!!!!

Man what they say about Ross quick service is so true. I had barely finished sending him my info, and in less than 10 minutes he had replied back that the part had shipped. This was on Wednesday and the brake was already here on Saturday. Now in the process of timing it myself (using the old sandpaper and flat surface method mentioned somewhere here in the hide). Can't wait to try it out.

Does anyone knows if there is a required torque needed when installing the Ross brakes. Or would just hand-tightening and some blue loctite be enough?
