I have been gathering info on re-barreling my stevens 200 to a varmint contour 20" 7mm-08. I have been thinking of maybe adding a muzzle break for reduced recoil. I have no knowledge of different muzzle breaks so I am looking for opinions on brand of break to use. I do know it will make it louder then the 20" will already be, but im willing to do that to reduce recoil even more then the 7-08 already doesn't have lol

Maybe you should try a 22lr or something along those lines if your worried about the recoil of a 7mm-08..

I guess I can humor you a bit though. I have a Thruster, McMillan, and a VIAS on 3 of my 300WM's. The VIAS Works well but does stir dust. The Thruster works really well also but is brutal on the people shooting around The only time I have this problem is sighter at 100 before going to 1k and to verify at 100 again before I leave the range. The McMillan on my McMillan built 300 works about the same as the thruster.

I would spend my money on a more usefull upgrade of the rig though. With my 280AI in a MCM ADJ HTG and Rem Sendero contour fluted barrel I can spot hits at 500 and 1000. No break required

Here is a video of my 18" barrel 7mm-08 with a Badger Thruster brake on it.....fucker loud ehh??? Takes double ears for it to not sting shooting it. It is anoyying to other shooters so be prepared if you shoot around others. It does not kick much without it but for all day shooting it helps you stay away from a post ignition jerk after 200 rounds!!!

Inexperienced shooter and she took the recoil just fine without the brake as well just whined a little!!

I do appreciate the info so far. As for the 22lr comment, I never said I can't handle it or that it is a problem or whined about it. I shoot a rem 30-06 with no problems. But if reducing recoil is an option, it's a option I will consider.
