I have a Rem 700 sps with the regular plain jain barrel. I was wondering if any companies offer a break for the smaller barrel. Local shop in town told me i need .626 to be able to thread but i dont have a micrometer to be able to check.

Re: Muzzle Break on remmy

i am not sure about a muzzle break but i am sure someone makes a muzzle brake that would work.

take a tape measure or a ruler and see if you have at least 5/8" at the muzzle. if you do, you are good to go.

inferno,
Velocity plus does great work. I knew skip in Los Angeles. Great product i won't hesitate telling anyone to get his brake. As soon as i get a few extra bucks i'll get a brake for my 22-250.

Go with the Vais. I just had one put on my Plain Jane 700 BDL last week. It reduced felt recoil by about 50% and improved accuracy. I shot a .48 after the brake was installed, tightest group before the brake was a.96.

Call the guys at G.A. Precision about having it installed. Great service and 1 week turnaround.

VIAS is good but Holland is too. Most brakes no matter who produces them will greatly reduce your felt rcoil and accurize your rifle. We have a one week turn around. A muzzle brake job takes about a half an hour for a skilled machinist.

Check out my website. J and W Gunsmith

We're a full service shop and have a 70,000 square foot gun and hunting shop.

Re: Muzzle Break on remmy

First, .655" is plenty of barrel to take down to .625" for a 5/8 x 24 thread.

If you have any plans to take the brake off, then I'd recommend something like the Badget FTE that uses a clamping system to hold the brake to the barrel. The problem I think you're going to have with the .655" barrel is that after threading you're only going to have .015" of shoulder for the brake to butt up against. If you want to turn the brake down to the barrel diameter, you're looking at having nearly nothing left of the brake.

If it was my rifle, I'd get the FTE or FTE-style brake and a thread protector just in 5/8" x 24 with probably a 7/8" OD for hunting purposes. Then you'll end up with the best of both worlds.

Re: Muzzle Break on remmy

I'm guessing after a search on fte muzzle break it turned up badger ordnance. But their site says minm. barrel dai. of .8 if i am looking at the right product. Just getting into this sort of stuff so still a little to learn.
