What is the opinion on tightening muzzle breaks -- I have one that just rotates 3 degrees past dead top center) on the timing. Can I back this off (so it is just barely touching the barrel shoulder) and glue it in with Blue Loctite? Or do I need to shim it for a tight fit, or (gasp!) recut the muzzle break shoulder so I can go another 362 degrees around?

Finding a shim of about .003-.005 may be problematic for me.

Take a hammer and tap around the barrel gently then you should be able to get the brake timed my gun smith showed me that truck so do not know if it is right or wrong but it works

It is a custom rifle, .260 Remington, the brake is an AAC 51T type. So, yes, a suppressor will be mounted on it at some point.

I suggest you contact aac and see if you can shave a little meat off the brake to time it without shims, otherwise shims may be the way to go. Also, you may want stay away from loc tite with a can mount. Rocksett is usually the recommended thread locker for such an application. The last thing you should do with a can mount is half-ass the timing in the manner you mentioned.

Not sure if the barrel tapping trick will work for me -- sounds like that is useful when you are just SHY of proper timing and the vibrations allow you to tighten a hair more. My situation is the opposite -- I am just PAST proper timing.

I've got the shim material now so can go that route. I hadn't heard of Rocksett before -- looking at its specs I'm wondering how do you get the thing off if you want to later on? With Loctite you can just heat it up, but with the high temperature resistance of Rocksett does that still work?
